Female. Rather common in the Usumacinta delta.
2018-12-05 Crooked Tree, Belize District, Belize
Young bird with the streaked crown, brown eye and grayish cere. Unmistakable in area, and very common. Hovering over the wetlands in search for its preferred food item, Apple Snails, living in and near water.
2019-02-27 La Tovara, San Blas, Nayarit (Nay), Mexico
Young bird with boldly streaked breast and buffy markings in the head. Very worn tail. Legs should be yellowish, but probably covered with mud. Subspecies of these West Mexican birds remains unknown to me.
