2013-06-02 Presa la Vega (jal), Mexico The white tail band is characteristic among ducks, and gives associations toward gray geese. I counted about 100 birds this day, which is the maximum number I have ever counted of this species in Mexico. However, in nearby lakes several thousands have been counted. |

The orange brown color is unique among Mexican water birds, and though not very bright still has an effect that catches the eye. |

2014-02-22 Valle de las Garzas (Manzanillo), Mexico Adult with the dark orangebrown colors. The hunch-backed look when flying is very characteristic for the Whistling-Ducks in general. A species that normally is difficult to approach, so this one taking the chance was a nice surprise. |
