2017-04-19 Parque Natural El Triunfo (chp), Mexico Subspecies: brunnitorques Different birds. Both adults and young. The photos are horrible, but they are still useful to get an idea of how the species looks in the field. As always, it is surprising how different swifts look depending on the photo angle. Young Chestnut-collared are very similar to Black Swift, however, Chestnut-collared normally shows a clear cut tail and normally a wing that is narrow at the base and widening toward the beginning of the hand. Is generally more compact too. Came down to forage over the camp in the afternoon. |

2017-05-31 Reserva de la Chara Pinta (Tufted Jay Preserve), Mexico Subspecies: griseifrons Adult and young. See comment to 2514, as it applies here as well. Also notice that the subspecies are different, based on locality. However, don't think it is possible to identify them based on these horrible fotos, or if at all in the field. |
