4 cycle or more. Dark on the bill indicated that it should be a not-so-adult bird, but the plumage looks all adult. The species is unique in the area, though it can be confused with Western Gull in adult plumage in case you don't get to see the leg color. However, it normally has a more powerful bill tip, which, with good will, can be appreciated in the photo of the standing bird. Only saw these two birds at the locality. |

Adult looking. But is it really a Yellow-footed, or is it a yellow-legged Western? The leg color doesn't seem very strong and the bill neither, which goes in favor of Western, but the back color is dark indicating a Yellow-footed. Choose to believe that the light and the angle mislead, and go in favor of Yellow-footed. |

Adult. Yellow legs and strong bill exclude a Western which otherwise resembles a lot. Notice how the white tips to the outer remiges almost disappears against the backlight. |

Likely a 3cy - 3 cycle bird based on the dark brush on the upper bill. But otherwise a bird that looks like an adult. However, I'm not sure it is possible from this photo to say with certainty that the bird really is a Yellow-footed. In my eyes it looks good for a Western as well. The open bill makes it difficult to judge the thickness of it, and the leg color is not to see. The rather pale gray back could indicate a Western, but I'm not sure if it's not because of the angle and the strong sunlight. Thus, I can't remember any details, but choose to trust my notes saying that I only noted 1 Western, photo 2072, so this one must be one of the 40 YF Gulls that I saw this day. |

2cy - 2 cycle bird. Strong bi-colored bill, bright head and underside, gray shoulder and back in combination with some brownish coverts and old remiges is classic for these young birds. |

1cy - 1 cycle bird. Contrary to the other big gulls this one is only a 3 year type, thus following the smaller gulls, e.g. Bonapartes, in plumage development. The tricolored impression is characteristic for these young birds: Dark at the rear end, brown on the wings and whitish at the front and below. Here also a very strong bill. Photo 3 is shot separate of the two first why the bird appears a bit different, see the shoulders. |

Adult. Dark back (emphasized by the angle), yellow feet and strong bill. Eye ring orange yellow. More common here than Western. Saw 40 compared to 1 Western. |

Adult. Yellow feet and a bill that doesn't look that strong from this angle. Yellow orange eye ring. In the background adult Ring-billed Gull. |
