Virginia Rail 2499    (6 photos)
2017-03-28   Presa La Vega, west of Gdl, Jalisco (Jal), Mexico

Subspecies: limicola/friedmanni (Virginia)
Adult. Very horizontal posture, blackish flank and dark gray in the head excludes this one from the other similar rails. When we first spotted it, my clients shouted Aztec, but regrettably for them I rapidly dismissed that identification as wishful thinking. On the other hand I quietly could congratulate myself with a new Mexican species- Was foraging in the open in pure daylight as the photos also indicate. We did not get the Aztec Rail this day.

Happy Birding
