Subspecies: macronyx (Olive-backed) The Central Mexican and very different-looking olive-backed version of this species. The two photos shows a good example of how risky it can be to try to judge field characters based on poor photos. It's the same bird, but notice how the top of the head looks almost chestnut colored in photo 1 which is heavily overexposed. It also almost looks it has a none-black chest, the obstructing stick creating a false illusion. |
