Subspecies: ridgwayi
3 birds calling within a 100-meter triangle, and the only ones heard during a stretch of 1 km. Only two can be heard in this recording. The one much closer than the other.

2016-04-19    Las Joyas (Manantlán - jal), Mexico

Subspecies: ridgwayi
Adult. The grayish basic color and the broad buff neck band indicate this species. Mexican Whip-poor-will also has a buff neck band but it is narrower and the bird in general is darker.

2019-05-27    Volcán Nevado de Colima, Mexico

Subspecies: ridgwayi
A nightjar with the characteristic buff collar. Mexican Whip-poor-will is also a dark nightjar and can show a hint of a buff collar too, but never as strong as seen here. The black diamond spots on the scapulars are apparently thinner than on the whip-poor-will, but in general the plumage is very similar. This bird was also responding to playback, why it came out to pose.

2019-06-02    La Condesa (mi casa en Cd Guzmán), Mexico

Subspecies: ridgwayi
Bird heard behind my house both in the early morning, 05:24 and in the evening 21:12. This being first time ever in the one and a half year I've been living here. Could probably try to see it, but prefer to give it a break, expecting it to be outside its normal jurisdiction.

Happy Birding
