In winter plumage the female shows pronounced silver gray vermiculation to the back, which at first glance could make it look like a young male starting to acquire the gray back. But the white face patch of the female will probably always be so well-marked that doubts about sex should be excluded.
Still only few birds among the thousands of Tufted Ducks winter in the area. They don't like Amager!
