Bonaparte's Gull (Chroicocephalus philadelphia)    Gulls, Terns and Skimmers (Laridae)
Bonapartemåge ~ Gaviota de Bonaparte ~ Trädmås
Bonaparte's Gull 1038    (1 photos)
2010-11-05    Puerto Peñasco (son), Mexico

Adult basic plumage. Very much like Black-headed Gull, but more compact and tinier all black bill. The white tips to outer primaries seem to be variable between individuals - like it is with Black-headed Gull. But perhaps related to age?

Adult basic plumage. The all black bill, the pink feet and the gray white plumage with only black tips to outer primaries are characteristic. Here the color of the feet is exaggerated because of the quality of the light. Also notice that it is difficult to see the white tips to the primaries from below, but on the original zoomed in you see them. Not sure, but have a feeling that the one on 1038 and this one is the same, though two adults were present.

1cy bird. Again the general impression of the plumage is more like a Little Gull, especially with the dark shoulder bands, than the Black-headed Gull it resembles more in adult plumage. A small bright gull in black framing is the impression you get.

1cy bird. Looks more like a Little Gull than Black-headed Gull regarding its structure.
