Another male. Apparently unusual with the complete black arch between the bill and the cheek - can't find similar photos online. Also the buff front of the head looks unusually dark.

Another male. This one with more orange-buff on the cheek. They weren't shy as such, but always moving away when they saw us as we came paddling through the narrow passages.

Male without red on the bill and orange cheek patch. We didn't see any adult females at all.

Probably a male. Can't find any information about an immature plumage, so will assume that the diffuse tawny color on the cheek is part a natural male variation. Would have expected an adult female to show a strong-colored orange cheek-patch at this time of the year. Rather common in the mangrove here.
