On this wonderful two week trip we have a chance to see around 350 species of which almost 50 will be true Mexican endemics. Tufted Jay, Black-throated Magpie-Jay, Red Warbler, Slaty Vireo, Citreoline Trogon, Red-breated Chat, Aztec Thrush, Orange-breasted Bunting and Balsas Screech-Owl are some of the most popular ones.
We will visit 4 Mexican states (Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco and Colima), and in our search for both the local and migrant species we will visit a range of different habitats ranging from beautiful mountain forests and canyons over golden beaches, mangroves, salt ponds, tropical and dry thorn forests, inland lakes and chaparral throughout. Birding will be our main activity but we’ll move along in a moderate pace with enough time to enjoy the birds, the landscapes and the warm Mexican people and culture. Join us for a fun and unforgettable experience!
An excellent opportunity for you who are looking for a thorough but relaxed birding vacation! At this world famous tourist destination more than 550 species have been recorded and of these we can expect to find around 250 local and wintering species of which more than 20 are either true or regional endemics, including Yucatan Gnatcatcher.
In our search for these magnificent birds we will be visiting all three states on the peninsula, Quintana Roo, Yucatán and Campeche, which will takes us through Caribbean turquoise waters, dry savannas, beautiful estuaries and pristine neotropical jungles. Yucatán is also caves, cenotes and impressive Maya ruins, and not the least friendly local people, good food and lovely sunny weather.
We will briefly cross paths with the myriads of visiting tourists along the Riviera Maya and also when visiting the number one tourist attraction in Mexico, Chichén Itzá, but otherwise we will move through parts of the peninsula that have still not been taken over by mass tourism. The real Yucatán! The itinerary is prepared for us to get a chance to see all the endemics of the region, but it is also prepared for us to have enough time to enjoy the birds, and the landscapes and other wildlife as we move from place to place. Join us and be thrilled!
