All payments take place via bank transfer to my bank in Denmark.
All necessary information will be forwarded by email upon tour request. All commissions and transaction fees should be on your part.
To guarantee your seat on the tour, you should pay the deposit mentioned under the details of the tour of interest, as soon as possible.
The full amount of the trip should be received by me at least two months prior to the tour start. In case the full amount has not been paid two months before tour start, the reservation is automatically canceled, and the deposit is lost. But as long as no one else claims the seat, of course you can still pay the remaining amount, and secure your set on the tour, even within the two months limit.
To make a reservation you send me an email with the name of the tour in the subject field, as mentioned under the tour details, then I'll send you the payment information. Please add any relevant information and questions if you have any.
To guarantee your seat and reservation on the chosen tour, you have to pay the deposit (non-refundable) listed under the detailed description of the tour in question. The order of reception decides who will be considered first. In case you have paid a deposit, but were still not granted a seat, because too many others paid before you, you can decide to have your deposit refunded, or to be added to the waiting list. If the tour is closed and executed, while you are still on the waiting list, you will have your deposit refunded, or you can decide to have it transferred to a future trip (adjusted according to deposit of the such a future trip).
Cancellation on your part:
The deposit you have to pay, as soon as possible, to guarantee your reservation, will be specified under the detailed description of each tour. The deposit is always non-refundable, when the cancellation is initiated by you.
The full amount of the tour has to be paid at least two months before the tour start. In case you have paid the full amount, and you decide to cancel your seat earlier than two months before the tour start, you will get a refund of the full amount minus the deposit, and minus any non-refundable costs already realized with third party, air-tickets etc.
A cancellation on your part two months or later before tour start, will deny you any refund at all.
Cancellation on my part:
In case the tour is canceled on my part, for any reason at any time, you will receive a complete refund of the amount you have paid.
All prices are calculated on a basis of the expected level of costs of the time when the tour takes place. However, should there during the time from the price has been set to the realization of the tour, occur situations affecting the level of costs in such a degree that the tour total will be seriously higher, you will be advised about this, and in case the extra amount added to the total will be more than 10 percent of the original price, you will be offered to cancel you reservation, and have the full amount returned minus the deposit, and minus any nun-refundable costs already realized with third party, airtickets etc.
Single occupancy is generally offered on all trips for an extra price, but is never guaranteed. In situations where it is not possible to offer this, it will be noted expressively under the details of the tour in question.
I’ll do whatever I can to find you a suited room-mate, if you want to share a room, but if it is not possible you will have to pay the single supplement.
You should be mobile by your own effort, and be able to walk several kilometers during a day, sometimes in a non-level environment. All arrangements depend on the participants to be able to comply with the general conditions that the tour is offering including sitting, sleeping and walking efforts. Please ask for a separate arrangement if you have special needs, and don't hesitate to ask, if you have any doubt.
I’ve been living and birding in Mexico for the most of my time since 2006.
I love to bird and being out in the field, and have been doing so for more than 30 years. I also love to travel, and combined with a good logistic sense, and the pleasure of interacting with people about the birds, I’ve come to find that the multi-faceted job it is to prepare and execute bird tours for others, is just about the ideal work for me.
I like to be in control with the whole process, why I prefer to do small business and only work with small groups (4-5 persons). A small group makes it easier to improvise. But it also makes it more likely that everybody gets to see the birds, and makes it more likely that the group as a whole finds a harmonious flow that will give us a good and enjoyable experience together.
Of course I have a professional responsibility toward you as my clients. Both in relation to the birds you expect to see, and in relation to the practical execution of the tour. Still, it is my hope and ambition that we soon find ourselves acting more as a group of friends rather than business partners.
It might be important for you to know that my preferred birding disciplines are identification, taxonomy, lists, phenology and photography. It’s not that I’m not interested in other aspects of ornithology, but I guess my inclination is easier to understand when I tell you that I’m a computer programmer by profession and not a biologist. Adding to this, birding is also a spiritual experience to me. Or maybe not so much the birding itself, but the need to be in nature and connect with the natural energies that surround us. To me the purpose of life is to simply experience joy. In the moment. To be able to tell the world about this great bird that we saw, and to show them incredible photos is absolutely legitimate and fun, but the motivation for keeping on year after year with this, at times, exhausting activity, is the thrilling sensation of joy in the Now. It’s a true gift to be allowed to experience all the beauty and natural wonders the world has to offer.
In the real world money is of course also an issue, and minimizing the group sizes naturally affects the price you have to pay per person. Still I think the prices I’m offering you are fair and still very competitive with the market in general. I don’t mind earning as much as possible per tour, but I’m also bound by a great need for honesty and decency when interacting with my fellow humans, leading me to inform you: My tour groups are limited to 4 or 5 persons. The prices I’m listing per person are based on 4 participants. In case the tour fills up, you will receive a refund, after the trip, reflecting the difference between 4 and 5 participants.
Based on the same thinking, I’m not including food and drinks in the tour price. Traveling in large groups it can make sense to have food included to save time when paying in restaurants. But because we are a small group this is not going to be a real problem, why I think you should have the benefit of only having to pay for the exact amounts you consume.
When birding and guiding I normally use all the technical solutions that have become standard today: Recordings/playback, photos and laser pointer. Of course with an appropriate consideration toward the birds, balancing our craving and their well-being. However, should it turn out that the entire group prefers not to make use of pointers or sound provocations, I have no problem refraining from doing so, as long as the group understands and accepts that it will probably affect the overall outcome of our birding effort.
A word on climate changes and a too heavy impact on the last remaining natural resources by irresponsible selfish world travelers, will have to be: God bless you all! I honestly believe that a happy traveler makes more good in the world than thousands of frustrated minds staying home, trying to save the planet by imposing guilt and doomsday beliefs in us all. Trust that life is bigger than any of us will ever understand, and trust that your optimism and feeling-good is a bigger contribution to a harmonious and healthy world than any action based on fear and worries will ever be!
Lastly a little prayer: Come to Mexico trusting that I have prepared an itinerary where you can feel safe. And also come to Mexico with the awareness that it is not going to be the same as back home. Food and eating habits are different and noise levels, traffic and pace of life are too. However, if you come with an open and patient mind and be relaxed about it, I’m sure you’ll have great time and a precious memory for life!
If for some unexpected reason prices change drastically after you have paid the tour total, I might find it necessary to adjust the tour price. See conditions under Cancellation and refunds.
Also, if the itinerary has to be changed due to hotel shut-down or birding locations obsolete/inaccessible I claim the right to do so, but will strive to make the alternative as similar to the original itinerary as possible, same hotel quality and same target species.
