Comment | A pair in breeding plumage. Typical short gray bill with black tip and border to the base of the bill. The latter is a good character to distinguish it from Eurasian Wigeon. In typical plumage, like here, however, there should be no problem separating the two. The females might still look alike, but American always has a grayish sheen to the head and the upper neck. |
