Males and females in flock. Regular winter visitor around Amager. Here with Eurasian Wigeons and a single Black-headed Gull.

Adult female. The marked transition between the head and the neck plus the long nape feathers suggest that it is an older bird and not a first-winter.

A first year female with whitish lores. The neck feathers also seem less bushy than expected on an adult female. The only bird that came by this day with a good southeastern coming in.

A mixed flock of both males and females. 4 adult males in varying degree of transition to breeding plumage, plus one young male with the dark head color starting to come through on the throat (4, 5, 8, 9, 10). And a few adult females with complete chestnut heads and no white lore area (indication of young bird). In 12-14 a female Smew has joined the flock.
